Stocks fall on worries European bailout will slow recovery; Dow falls 163 but ends week higher
Stocks tumbled for a second day Friday after concerns grew that the deep spending cuts under Europe's bailout plan would slow a global recovery.
The Dow Jones industrial average ended down 163 points but closed well off its lows of the day. The Dow and other major stock indexes still posted gains for the week after rocketing higher Monday on hopes that a bailout plan for Europe would prevent a debt crisis in Greece from spreading.
The latest drop followed a slide of more than 3 percent in European markets. The euro dropped to a 19-month low against the US dollar.
Investors seeking safety piled into Treasurys and the US dollar. Gold settled lower after hitting another record. Crude oil sank nearly 4 percent, and an indicator of stock market volatility jumped. The Chicago Board Options Exchange's Volatility Index -- known as the market's fear gauge, jumped 17.1 percent.
About seven stocks fell for every one that rose on the New York Stock Exchange, where volume came to 1.5 billion shares compared with 1.2 billion Thursday.
For the week, the Dow rose 2.3 percent, the S&P 500 index added 2.2 percent and the Nasdaq gained 3.6 percent.
Treasurys jumped Friday, pushing down yields. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note fell to 3.43 percent from 3.53 percent late Thursday.
Gold futures ended lower Friday, reversing course as the metal lost momentum after hitting a record in the morning and as it battled a rising US dollar. Gold hit a record of $1,249.70 an ounce before settling down $1.40 to $1,227.80.
Crude prices fell to a three-month low in electronic trading Friday amid a stronger dollar, higher supply and an approaching expiration for the June futures contract. Crude oil fell $2.79 to $71.61 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Lee County - Strong Oil and Gas Shows
Vick # 2
The well is currently at 5,800 feet, anticipated total depth is approximately 6,100 feet. The well entered the Lower Austin Chalk (“LAC”) at approximately 5,690 feet as anticipated and is still drilling in the LAC at the time of this report. The Eagleford Formation is directly below the LAC.
The well started having strong gas shows, with heavy gases, from 5,400 feet. The maximum gas readings recorded have been 2900 units. The well also had oil shows (36 degree API) and approximately ¼” of oil accumulated on top of the mud pits. Oil and gas shows of this type have continued to the current depth.
The oil and gas shows at this point are stronger than those at the Vick # 1 well at all depths. The well is anticipated to reach total depth in the next 24 hours at which time wire line logs will be run.
The objective is to further study the oil production potential of the Eagleford Shale for future drilling and testing as well as to refine our Vick # 2 horizontal target drilling in the LAC. The Vick # 2 horizontal drilling operations in the “high graded” LAC interval will then commence. - Web Site

SAMSON OIL & GAS
Goshen County State Lease Sale
Samson Oil & Gas Limited (ASX: SSN, NYSE AMEX: SSN) is actively pursuing the development of the Upper Cretaceous Niobrara Formation as an oil productive reservoir in Goshen County.
On May 12th, 2010 the Wyoming Office of State Lands & Investments held an oral auction for state oil & gas leases in Cheyenne, WY. Competitive bidding on these lease parcels were performed in an oral manner and priced on a per acre basis. 46 parcels located in Goshen County, where Samson holds a considerable acreage position (40,420 net acres) in the northern Denver- Julesburg Basin, were sold in the auction. The 46 state parcels comprised 16,880 acres which sold for a total price of $33.4 million, or an average price of approximately $2,000 per acre. The range of prices was from $500 to $3,050 per acre. The more expensive acreage was located in the deeper portion of the basin, south and on trend with Samson’s leasehold, while the less expensive acreage was located updip on the basin’s eastern flank where the Niobrara Formation is found at shallower depths. The results of the auction confirm that the industry currently has a high level of interest in the Niobrara Formation and suggest that the value of Samson’s acreage could benefit from its location adjacent to the higher priced acreage in the Auction.
Samson is actively in negotiations with several industry partners concerning a possible sale transaction that would reduce its equity in its Goshen County acreage whilst retaining a significant stake in the project - Web Site

MIRABELA NICKEL
Mirabela Nickel First Quarter 2010 MD&A - Highlights
Mirabela Nickel Limited (“Mirabela” or the “Company”) (TSX: MNB, ASX: MBN) is pleased to publish the highlights from its MD&A (Management Discussion and Analysis) for the first quarter ended March 31, 2010.
The complete first quarter MD&A and financial statements are available on the Company’s website: www.mirabela.com.au and under the Company’s profile at www.sedar.com. All amounts are expressed in Australian dollars, unless otherwise stated.
During the first quarter 2010, Mirabela transitioned from commissioning to operations. As a result, mining revenues and costs are no longer being capitalized but are being treated as operational costs through the profit and loss.
This is the first full quarter of financial reporting for the Company as a producer of nickel concentrate. However, as the Company’s operations are in ramp up, management does not believe that these financial results will be indicative of the Company’s financial performance in future periods when it is in full production. As Mirabela moves to full production, sales and production volumes are expected to increase and unit costs are expected to decrease...... - Web Site

Stocks slide in late trading after shares of retailers, financials slump; Dow falls 114
A late-day slide left stocks lower Thursday following a disappointing forecast from department store chain Kohl's and a drop in financial shares. Stocks mostly made modest moves for much of Thursday's trading but fell in the final hour as the euro weakened. The drop in stocks signaled that traders remain skittish about the direction of the market after weeks of big swings.
An economic report signaled that gains in the job market are proceeding slowly. The Labor Department said first-time claims for jobless benefits dipped to 444,000 last week from an upwardly revised 448,000 the previous week.
Bank stocks fell on reports that New York's attorney general is examining eight banks to determine whether they misled ratings agencies about mortgage securities.
Tech shares also got hit after investors saw a forecast from computer networking equipment company Cisco Systems Inc. as cautious. The stock fell 4.5 percent to post the steepest drop among the 30 stocks that make up the Dow.
Two stocks fell for every one that rose on the New York Stock Exchange, where consolidated volume came to 4.9 billion shares, compared with 5.3 billion Wednesday.
Crude oil fell $1.25 to $75.40 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Copper prices gained on speculation that fiscal austerity in Europe will help stanch the region’s budget shortfalls and buoy global growth.
Comex gold futures finished lower and nearer the session low Thursday as profit-taking pressure surfaced after prices Wednesday scored a new all-time high of $1,249.20, basis the June contract. June gold closed down $10.10 at $1,233.00 an ounce.

RED METAL
New Exploration Agreement with Cameco for uranium exploration
Red Metal has signed a farm-in and joint venture agreement with Cameco Australia Limited (Cameco), one of the world’s largest uranium miners, over Red Metal’s Lakes uranium project in the highly prospective Frome Sub-Basin of South Australia.
The agreement grants Cameco an exclusive right over a six-year period to explore for uranium and earn a 51% interest in any or all of four Red Metal tenements. To earn a 51% interest in a tenement Cameco is required to sole fund A$4 million of expenditure so that if, for instance, Cameco sought a 51% interest in all four tenements it would be required to contribute A$16 million.
The joint venture ensures an active work program with a minimum total project annual commitment of $700,000 on exploration in the first year and $500,000 in subsequent years. Once Cameco has earned 51%, Red Metal can elect to contribute to further exploration and development at a 49% interest or reduce to a 30% interest free-carried to a decision to mine. - Web Site

ARC EXPLORATION (ARX)
IUP CONVERSION & EXPLORATION UPDATE
BIMA PROJECT IN EAST SUMABAWA
Arc Exploration Limited (ASX: ARX) is pleased to announce that the conversion of the Bima KP to a Mining Business Licence (IUP) is completed. The Exploration IUP covering an area of 24,980 hectares was signed by the Bima Regent on 28 April 2010 and is valid for 5 years.
The Bima Project is located about 230 km east of Newmont's Batu Hijau porphyry copper-gold mine on the same segment of the Sunda-Banda magmatic arc. Targets in the tenement are gold and base metal-rich intermediate-sulphidation epithermal veins that are possibly related to buried porphyry copper-gold targets.
On 19 April 2010 ARX announced encouraging results from preliminary soil and rock chip sampling at the northern end of the Kowo Prospect.
Further results received from infill soil sampling on a 50m x 100m grid over Kowo have highlighted elevated coincident gold-lead-barium over mineralised and altered volcanic rock surrounded by barren younger cover (see figure below).
Elevated lead and barium in soils are outlined by the 250 ppm Pb and 2500 ppm Ba soil contours. Barium outlines a large 1500 m by 300 m elongated zone and elevated gold in soils defined by the 0.075 ppm Au soil contour covers a 200 m by 300 m area on the edge of the barium soil anomaly at the northern end of the prospect. This gold zone probably extends beneath cover to the north and west of the grid area.
Continuous rock chip samples from the area of gold in soils returned results of 8.5 m at 0.14 g/t Au, 1335 ppm Pb & 7421 ppm Ba and 7 m at 0.15 g/t Au, 1024 ppm Pb & 4703 ppm Ba and 13 m at 0.2 g/t Au, 4 g/t Ag, 39 ppm Cu, 356 ppm Pb & 3332 ppm Ba.
These results are encouraging and support the potential for bulk tonnage gold-base metal sulphide deposits in the project area. The Company plans to undertake further work at Bima in the second half of 2010 to prepare for possible scout drilling later in the year or in early 2011. - Web Site

WALL STREET
A dose of good economic news sent stocks sharply higher Wednesday and erased the Dow Jones industrials' big plunge of last week.
The Dow rose about 149 points to return to where it stood before Thursday's tumble that briefly took the average down nearly 1,000 points. The technology-dominated Nasdaq composite index led major indexes with a 2.1 percent gain. Investors moved into tech stocks ahead of earnings from network gear maker Cisco Systems Inc. and following an upbeat forecast from IBM Corp.
About six stocks rose for every one that fell on the New York Stock Exchange, where consolidated volume came to 5.3 billion shares, compared with 5.9 billion Tuesday.
Economic reports from the U.S. and Europe helped reassure the market that the global recovery is intact. The Commerce Department said exports rose in March to their highest levels since 2008. The Commerce Department said that the nation's trade deficit rose to a 15-month high in March as increased oil prices drove up import costs. Exports rose 3.2 percent.
Uncertainty over the long-term health of the euro helped lift gold to a record high. Gold settled up $22.80 at $1,243.10 an ounce after hitting a record high of $1,247.70.
Crude oil fell 72 cents to $75.65 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange after the International Energy Agency said global oil demand is expected to rise less than previously expected in 2010.
Germany's DAX index jumped 2.4 percent after the government report on economic growth. Britain's FTSE 100 climbed 0.9 percent and France's CAC-40 rose 1.1 percent.
China's production of refined copper may rise further this month after a 6.1 percent gain in April due to new capacity and strong prices.
Production of primary aluminium is also likely to benefit from increased capacity as well as improved supply of hydroelectricity after the the second-highest level in April, analysts said.
China is the world's top producer of aluminium, lead and zinc and also the top consumer of most base metals.

DIAMOND DRILLING COMMENCES AT CENTRAL TANAMI GOLD PROJECT
FURTHER HIGH-GRADE RESULTS FROM SANDPIPER DEPOSIT, WESTERN TANAMI INCLUDING 11m @ 4.9g/t and 2.6m @ 30.1g/t
Australian gold producer Tanami Gold NL (ASX: TAM) is pleased to advise that resource extension drilling has commenced at the recently acquired Central Tanami Project (“CTP”) in the Northern Territory, marking the first step towards the planned re-commencement of gold production next year.
The start of drilling at the CTP comes just one week after Tanami Gold announced a 105% increase in the Mineral Resource to a total Measured, Indicated and Inferred Resource of 11.7 million tonnes grading 2.8g/t gold for 1.06 million ounces of contained gold (refer ASX Announcement of 4 May 2010 and Table 2.0).
The initial drilling programs are designed to confirm extensions to the recently updated Mineral Resource and obtain metallurgical samples.
Drilling is underway at the Hurricane-Repulse pit, the first of several high priority prospects within close proximity of the Central Tanami Treatment Plant. Previous Reverse Circulation (RC) and Diamond Drilling (DD) beneath the base of the Hurricane Pit has returned significant down hole intervals including:
- 19m @ 10.9 g/t Au from 176m in TDD24
- 8m @ 20.9 g/t Au from 75m in TRC1059
- 14m @ 11.3 g/t Au from 141m in TRC1425
- 6m @ 26.0 g/t Au from 66m in TRC1040

Mining Licence Application for Barlee
The company is pleased to announce it has commenced application for a Mining Licence for the Halleys East area of its Barlee tenements.
The area covered for the initial ML application will be approximately 12 square kilometres and will cover the current Halleys East and Phil JORC inferred resource as well the prospective targets at Halleys NE and GLR.
While the licence is in application the company will continue to aggressively explore the regional targets on the Barlee tenement with a further 35,000 metres of fully funded drilling planned for this calendar year. Additional ML applications will be evaluated following exploration results.
This provides the company with flexibility in alternate treatment options either at the nearest toll treatment facility or at its own facility subject to additional resource being proven at Barlee. Further drilling is planned to commence at Barlee at the end of May / early June.
Scoping study figures indicate a strong positive cash flow due to the high grade shallow nature of the JORC inferred resource, low processing costs and the current gold price. - Web Site

WALL STREET
The stock market showed signs of stability Tuesday as major indexes held on to most of their rebound from last week's big drop.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell about 37 points after fluctuating for much of the day. Broader indicators were mixed.
The easing of worries about Europe allowed traders to focus on the stronger economic picture in the U.S. The Commerce Department said wholesale inventories rose 0.4 percent in March. That was just short of economists' forecasts. But sales increased by more than double the expected amount, a sign that demand is improving.
Advancing stocks narrowly outpaced those that fell on the New York Stock Exchange, where consolidated volume came to 5.9 billion shares, compared with 7 billion Monday.
The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies rose 5.87, or 0.9 percent, to 695.48.
Asian markets retreated after a report showed inflation in China accelerated last month. China has already spooked markets by clamping down on bank lending to cool its economy, and investors worried that the inflation report could lead Chinese authorities to tap the brakes on its huge economy again.
The US dollar rose against the euro after traders grew concerned about the fallout from the debt Europe could incur from financing the rescue plan. That uncertainty drove gold sharply higher.
Continued safe-haven buying support and bullish technical momentum on Tuesday pushed Comex gold futures to within a whisker of a new all-time record high and prices did close at a fresh all-time high close. Prices also scored a fresh 5.5-month high of $1,225.50, basis June Comex futures, and closed up $19.70 at $1,220.30 an ounce. The all-time high in nearby Comex gold futures is $1,227.50 an ounce, scored in December of 2009.
Oil prices seesawed Tuesday as investors continued to assess the impact of a $1-trillion-dollar bailout package in Europe.
Benchmark crude fell 43 cents to settle at $76.37 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

FOX CLOSES IN ON 10 YEAR MINE LIFE - LONGER PRODUCTION OUTLOOK CONFIRMED
Fox Resources Limited (ASX: FXR, Fox) today announced a positive preliminary economic evaluation of the Company’s Sholl B2 deposit (100%), located just 6km north of Radio Hill in the Pilbara of Western Australia. The independent evaluation was prepared by Snowden Mining Consultants Pty Ltd (Snowden) using assumed mining and recovery factors.
Sholl’s main mineralisation, Sholl B2, is a 2.5km geologically continuous system that remains untested at depth. Sholl B2 is a key contributor to Fox’s developing heap leach operation.
The significance of today’s update is the extension to Fox’s heap leaching project life. The new evaluation highlighted a potential mine life of 10 years at Sholl B2 and Radio Hill, based on a 400,000 tonne per annum operation – a large increase from the initial estimated mine life.
Fox is currently developing a base metals heap leaching operation at Radio Hill utilising nickel and copper resources at both the Company’s Radio Hill and Sholl deposits. The initial aim was to reach a five-year mine life at Radio Hill, but based on this preliminary analysis of Sholl B2, the combined mine life of Radio Hill and Sholl B2 now has the potential to extend beyond 10 years. - Web Site

Bow Boosts 2010 Gas Reserves Target by 50%
The Directors of Bow Energy Ltd (ASX:BOW) are pleased to announce that following external assessments of the Gas In Place (GIP) potential of its coal seam gas tenements together with positive drilling results in its Bowen Basin tenements has provided the confidence for Bow to substantially increase its previously announced gas reserve targets.
Highlights
External assessments of Bow’s eight coal seam gas projects in the Bowen and Surat Basins in Queensland have now identified Gas In Place (GIP) potential of over 13.8 Trillion cubic feet (Tcf) net to Bow. The 13.8 TCF estimate does not however include any GIP estimate for the Fort Cooper coal measures within the Norwich Park Block where Bow’s first two exploration wells intersected an average of 28 metres of gassy Fort Cooper coals – indicating the potential for substantial additional gas resources within this Block.
Supported by the external GIP assessment and early positive drilling results at Norwich Park, Bow has increased its gas reserve targets as follows:
- End of 2010 3P gas reserve target increased by 50% from 2,750 PJ to 4,128 PJ; and
- End of 2011 gas reserve targets of 6,200 PJ for 3P and 1,250 PJ for 2P.
The increased end of 2011 3P reserves target, if proven that the gas can be economically recovered, represents sufficient reserves to supply the 240 PJ per annum approximately needed for a 4 million tonne per annum liquefied natural gas (LNG) train over a 25-year period. - Web Site

BALL MILL ACQUISITION ENHANCES ANDASH GOLD COPPER PROJECT ECONOMICS
Kentor Gold Limited (Kentor Gold or the Company) is pleased to announce the acquisition of the major item of equipment, the primary ball mill, for the Andash Gold-Copper Project.
Commenting, Kentor Gold Managing Director Simon Milroy said: "Securing this high quality mill on favourable terms is a significant enhancement of the economics of Andash and represents an important advance in the projectís development."
The ball mill is being supplied by the leading Finnish manufacturer Outotec, with an ABB motor, and has already been manufactured and packed ready for transport to site.
The 6MW mill is 10% larger than was specified in the Andash Projectís Definitive Feasibility Study, and will lead to an increase in the processing plantís throughput.
However, the total cost to acquire and transport the mill to site is more than US$1 million cheaper than was budgeted in the Study. The price is fixed and denominated in Euro. - Web Site

Low Carbon Kaocem® Cement - Commercial Production Testing Results
The Company is pleased to announce that testing results from the first commercial production run of Low Carbon Kaocem® Cement with Zhejiang Dadongwu Group, (DDW), in Shanghai, has given excellent testing results.
Both three day and seven day strength results for Kaocem® are equivalent or superior to a standard high quality Australian Ordinary Portland Cement.
This Low Carbon Cement was produced using simple blending technology and incorporating the Skardon River Kaolin along with a proprietary ingredient from DDW. This allows a huge reduction in carbon footprint compared to conventional Ordinary Portland Cement production without detriment to physical properties.
Bulk sampling of this Kaocem® will now start, allowing strategically selected customers to complete final approvals. - Web Site

Stocks surge on global effort to ease European debt crunch; Dow industrials jump 405 points
Stocks rocketed to their biggest gain in a year and bond prices fell Monday after a nearly $1 trillion plan to contain Europe's debt crisis reassured investors.
The European Union and the International Monetary Fund agreed to create a nearly $1 trillion rescue fund to support European nations burdened by heavy debt. Investors drew reassurance after the Federal Reserve and other central banks stepped up with financial support to corral what analysts warned was a growing financial crisis.
The Fed restarted a program from 2008 to ship dollars overseas through the foreign central banks.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose about 405 points to its biggest advance since March 2009. Broader U.S. indexes outpaced the Dow's 3.9 percent rise. Gains in several European markets topped 9 percent.
The Chicago Board Options Exchange's Volatility Index fell after spiking last week. The index, which is known as the market's fear gauge, last week jumped to about 41 from 20. That meant more investors were expecting big drops in the market. The VIX slid 30 percent Monday to about 29.
A drop in the US dollar boosted prices of commodities. Crude oil rose $1.69 to $76.80 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Copper rose the most in six weeks after European policy makers unveiled a loan package of almost $1 trillion to end a sovereign-debt crisis that threatened to derail the region’s economic rebound.
However gold fell, losing $9.60 to $1,200.80 an ounce. Treasurys and gold surged late last week as investors piled into safe assets.

OZ MINERALS LIMITED
New drill intersections at Prominent Hill announced in presentation to analysts
As part of an analyst visit to Prominent Hill on 10 and 11 May 2010, a presentation will be released to the market, including information on drill intersections from a new area, below what has previously been described as the Western Gold Zone.
These new drill intercepts show relatively high copper and gold mineralisation as indicated below.
Hole PH10D501W1 intersected:
27m at 0.08% copper and 1.79g/t gold from 802m, and
53m at 1.74% copper and 1.03g/t gold from 870m
Drilling continues with hole PH10D512W2 targeting mineralisation beneath this hole. Visual results seen to date indicate broad zones of alteration with associated visual copper mineralisation. Results are awaited.
Marcel van Eck, OZ Minerals Exploration Manager for South Australia, said “this intersection demonstrates that there is significant potential in the area around Prominent Hill that is being targeted by a systematic program of geophysics followed by exploration drilling”.
OZ Minerals is spending a total of $40 million in 2010 on the 4,000 square kilometres of Prominent Hill tenements and on the 3,000 square kilometres of tenements that are part of the joint venture with IMX Resources.
In April a comprehensive airborne geophysics program using ‘Falcon’ technology commenced across a large area of these tenements to the north and west of Prominent Hill, in which a total of 24,000 line kilometres will be flown with a line spacing of 200 metres.
Terry Burgess, CEO of OZ Minerals said, “I believe that we can add more value for OZ Minerals shareholders with a major exploration discovery around Prominent Hill than anything else we can do. We are committed to systematic exploration in this highly prospective region. Today's results are an initial indication of the potential that might be in the region and we look forward to the results of the current and further exploration programs”. - Web Site
